The former Gravediggers Bothy, which is located at the edge of the Mars Wark Cemetery, was considered as a potential on-site visitor centre. The Bothy was in a state of disrepair and required substantial works to bring it up to a usable standard. The works in the Bothy included replacement of the roof, eradication of rising damp, new doors, repair works to the windows, cladding to the internal walls, decorative lighting to the ceiling and a new internal floor surface.
The Bothy will now be used as an Interpretation Centre and will house interpretive materials relating to the Old Town Cemetery for the community and visitors to read and enjoy.
It is also anticipated that the Centre will display the work of a local Primary School for everyone to see, and show the Schools keen interest in the Cemetery as an important component within their community.
